Over the years, Microsoft has revolutionized the way we use the modern day personal computer. Ever since releasing the Windows XP Operating System approximately 15 years ago, the world of computing evolved into something that the everyday user could utilize. Windows 7 was one of the most successful operating systems in history. It sold over 450 million copies in less than two years and quickly became the primary replacement for the Windows XP, something which Vista failed to do.
Microsoft’s 2012 release of the Windows 8 Operating system, focused on a different approach. The Windows 8 OS tried to combine the ease of the Touch-UI apps with the power of the normal user interface. For this, Microsoft built the Windows 8 OS from scratch, with a completely revamped start menu and interface, the build received mixed reviews from users all over.

Microsoft seemed to miss out on the parallel worlds in which both the applications run. With the release of the windows 8, the hardware requirements also changed. Though the Windows 8 proved to be much faster at startup and shutdown, the driver compatibility changed, which limited the options for users to upgrade to.
Microsoft plans to release the consumer preview of the much anticipated Windows 10 OS by the end of this month. Although these are the major speculations that revolves around the development of the new OS, the Developer Preview of the Windows 10 proved that the upcoming OS has a much cleaner look when compared to the Windows 8. The Windows 10 promises an all new browser, ‘Spartan’ as Microsoft calls it, and a personal assistant on the likes of Siri, ‘Cortana’. The name has been taken from the Halo series of games developed by Microsoft.

Microsoft is calling it the most advanced version of Windows ever. Windows 10 promises a perfect blend of simplicity and functionality. The hype around the release of the new OS grows day by day. Akshima Sharma, an IT Student from Pune, expressed her views on the upcoming release of the Operating System, quoted “Right now, I am pretty confused about the interfacing on my Windows 8.1 powered laptop. It just doesn’t seem rightly balanced. I really hope this next release makes things a lot simpler. A clean user interface really does enhance the overall experience of the user and ease of use is all what the personal computer is about. Isn’t it? From the initial developer preview, it seems pretty neat, especially the start menu“.

Following the current trend in OS releases, the new windows from Microsoft is expected to be released as a free update through the Windows store for those who own copies of its windows 8 and 8.1 operating systems.
