Nasa to launch India’s Group Captain Shubhanshu Shukla to Space Station

The National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) of the United States will launch Group Captain Shubhanshu Shukla as India’s gaganyatri into the International Space Station (ISS), according to a statement made by the Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO). This news follows the June 2023 signing of a Space Flight Agreement (SFA) between ISRO and Axiom Space Inc., USA, for the Axiom-4 mission.

Know About Group Captain Shubhanshu Shukla

At the age of 18, Shubhanshu Shukla, a native of Lucknow, committed himself to serving his nation. Without telling his family, the young guy completed the National Defense Academy (NDA) application. Shubhanshu’s elder sister, Suchi Shukla, had stated to TOI that her brother was only 14 years old during the Kargil War and that two years later, he enlisted for an NDA without telling his family.

To suggest candidates for this mission, the National Mission Assignment Board was established as an advisory body. As the primary gaganyatri, they had suggested Group Captain Shubhanshu Shukla, and Group Captain Prasanth Balakrishnan Nair was chosen as the backup mission pilot. Captain Shubhanshu will be accompanied on this trip by Peggy Whitson of the US, serving as the Commander; SŅ‚awosz Uznanski of Poland and Tibor Kapu of Hungary have been assigned to the post of trip Specialist.

During the mission, the crew members of the International Space Station (ISS) will carry out scientific research and technology demonstration experiments. They are also expected to participate in a variety of space outreach initiatives. Additionally, ISRO states that “the experiences gained during this mission will be beneficial for the Indian Human Space Programme and it will strengthen human space flight cooperation between ISRO and NASA.” While on an official visit to the US last year, Prime Minister Narendra Modi made the announcement regarding this joint project between NASA and ISRO.
