Self-Configurable Tablet

Four bright students of IIT Kanpur have developed a self- configurable tablet. The tablet consists of an Arduino-mega, which is an electronic circuit on a single board. It functions as the Central Processing Unit of the tablet.

The tablet has a smart GPU screen too. A Graphic Processing Unit (GPU) is a microprocessor that handles the calculation necessary for 3-D graphics. Till date, GPU was designed specifically for laptops. The tablet also has the facility of an accelerometer enabling motor sensing games.

SD card can also be attached to store external data like images and music. However, the project is yet to be incorporated with a GSM/Wi- fi shield.

The tablet has all the basic applications like Calendar, Image Viewer, Audio Player, Calculator, Painting with an interactive GPU design. At the same time, the tablet can be used for fun with preloaded games like DX-ball, tether and multiplayer reactors.

The main aim of the project is that it is self- configurable. With the source code made available, anyone with the basic knowledge of programming can change the overall look of the tablet according to their needs and even add new applications of as per their interests unlike the other tablets available in the market.

The four students who have come out with this break-through technology are Shubham Atreja, Shubham Sonewana, Subhrajeet Paul and Shreyash Pandey of Electronics Club, IIT Kanpur. The project was undertaken under the guidance of Mr. Shivendu Bhushan and Mr. Anurag Prabhakar.
