Chandrayaan 3 Victory: Enters Lunar Orbit!
India's Chandrayaan 3 enters Moon's orbit, shares first images. Excitement builds for historic soft landing.
On August 5, 2023, Chandrayaan 3, India’s third Moon mission, successfully entered lunar orbit, reaching the milestone 22 days after its launch. The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) shared the mission’s first images of the Moon via their official Twitter handle.

Chandrayaan-3 embarked on a 41-day voyage to the lunar south pole, an unexplored region where no other nation has reached before. Having covered about two-thirds of the distance to the Moon since its July 14 launch, the spacecraft is now set for a soft landing attempt on August 23.

During the important Lunar Orbit Insertion on August 5, Chandrayaan-3’s spacecraft took some pictures of the Moon, and it’s an exciting moment for India’s space program.
Following the successful lunar orbit entry, Chandrayaan-3 communicated with ISRO, indicating that it had “felt the lunar gravity.” This communication was a crucial confirmation that the spacecraft was under the Moon’s gravitational influence.

Next on the agenda is the orbit reduction operation scheduled for Sunday at 11 PM, followed by three more operations leading up to August 17. These manoeuvres will culminate in the separation of the Landing Module Vikram, housing the rover Pragyan, from the Propulsion Module. The lander will undergo de-orbiting manoeuvres to prepare for the final powered descent onto the Moon.
