“Bigger than Bigger”: iPhone 6

The new iPhone has hit the Indian markets post its release in September 2014. It has been a huge hit in the international markets by selling more than 4 million iPhone 6 handsets within the first 24 hours since its release creating a new Apple record. In the next three days, Apple sold over 10 million handsets. The popular opinion has been positive regarding the specifications and the users are well satisfied.

The trend of bigger phones has finally been grasped by Apple and the new iPhone 6 with a larger display screen of 4.7 inches and a redefined design different from the sharp edgy look of the previous iPhones. The new iPhone 6 is designed with the approach of continuity. The effect created by the diamond cut edges slightly rounded with a sleek aluminum finish and shiny glass gives iPhone 6 a stylish and elegant appearance.

Both the size and the design of the handset makes it pleasing to hold and convenient to use with one hand. Another convenience added is the shifting of the power button from the top of the phone to the right edge just above the nano SIM-tray making it easier to access with the thumb if you are a right-handed user or with the index finger if you’re a left-handed user. iPhone 6 is available in three colors – Space Gray, Silver and Gold. The new iPhone6 is shatterproof and lightweight.

What’s new in the iPhone 6 is its updated Operating System, ios8 which is upgradable to ios8.1. It has a 1.4GHz dual core processor, A8 which has the same 64-bit architecture that Apple has been using previously. With the new Retina HD screen there is an increased screen resolution. It has an LED Backlit IPS LCD display with 16M colors.

The camera reportedly has been improved as well and is quicker and more efficient. The resolution of the camera is 8 MP and has Phase detection auto-focus along with dual-LED flash. Other features include 1/3” sensor size, geotagging, simultaneous HD video and image recording, touch focus, face/smile detection and HDR.

Another new feature introduced is the Apple Pay System. The NFC technology inside when synced with the Passbook allows the user to pay simply with a tap of the phone. Other features like active noise cancellation, Siri natural language commands, iCloud services, voice memo/command, iCloud keychain etc. makes iPhone a user-friendly phone.

Apple enjoys their customers’ loyalty and a large section of consumers who buy iPhones are those who have been using the previous versions of it and have become used to the ease and convenience offered by Apple. One such customer is Mr. Nitin Goel, who has previously used iPhone 4s, iPhone 5 and now has bought not just one but all the three colors of iPhone 6. He seems to be very happy with the investment that he has made. When asked what is the one feature about the new iPhone 6 which stands out for him he says, “The battery life is much better.

Earlier when I was using iPhone 5 the maximum battery life on heavy usage would be 2 or 3 hours, however now I use my iPhone for 24 hours and the battery gives no problems.” On being asked apart from the battery life what else makes it a good phone, he says, “the easy accessibility and connectivity that it provides makes it easier to access my emails and other such information.”

Mrs. Manju Goel, wife of Mr. Nitin Goel corroborates her husband’s opinions and on being asked what she likes about it, simply states, “I just like it. I own the silver one and I have been an iPhone user for the past two years. It is easier to use than other phones.”

With such loyal customers willing to invest in Apple every time they introduce something new in the market puts a huge responsibility on them to deliver quality products. The recent reports of the iPhone 6 plus bending while users were carrying them in their pockets have been rubbished by Apple saying that it was only in 9 cases that this happened, while millions of other users have reported satisfaction with the product.
