A casual relationship is usually a sexual or romantic connection that lacks the aspect of bonding or attachment. As mentioned, these relationships are rather mutually understood and always involve discussions of how the two of you will be involved without expecting any commitment out of the other person.
It is often implied that the status is oriented more for pleasure for both, and one does not look for guarantees of further stays in the embraced position. It thus offers an opportunity to satisfy sexual or companionship needs without the strings, dramas, and commitment of more meaningful relationships. However, a situationship is a form of romantic or sexual relationship that does not come with the outlines of roles and duties. This category of relationships is somewhere in the middle of friendship and dating, thus creating confusion most of the time. Situationships are relationships defined as sexual or romantic associations with no clear acquaintance but are not considered dating or committed. This can cause confusion and sometimes affection, because one of the members or both members could build up expectations or grow affectionate without the other person knowing. Situationships usually happen when people lack self-identity, are uncomfortable with or against commitment, or expect the relationship to eventually progress on a deeper level.
The most significant distinction may be found in the mere fact that while one is clear and unambiguous, the other is not. Such a kind of sexual relationships lack the formal structure of marriage and there is no pretence of any emotionally deep connection, thus making it safe.
Situationships, however, are not clear and may therefore cause emotional understanding and potentially lead to a breakout of some minor squabbles or major cases of people getting hurt. Both forms are prevalent in the current generation where couple dynamics of relationships tend to deviate from the traditional ‘standard’ models thus incorporating complexity into their interactions.
