Learn a few techniques to curb anger issues
When did you get angry about the little issues or when did you get jealous over someone or something? Some may say today, yesterday, or some few minutes ago. Why does this happen? The answer is, negative thought constantly dominates our minds. They do not allow the positive thoughts to function well. So, it becomes vital to curb anger.
The Bhagavad Gita, Chapter 16 verse 21, where Bhagwan Shri Krishna says,
त्रिविधं नरकस्येदं द्वारं नाशनमात्मन: |
काम: क्रोधस्तथा लोभस्तस्मादेतत्त्रयं त्यजेत् || 21||
tri-vidhaṁ narakasyedaṁ dvāraṁ nāśhanam ātmanaḥ
kāmaḥ krodhas tathā lobhas tasmād etat trayaṁ tyajet
There are 3 gates leading to the hell. The hell for the self-destruction of the soul, they are lust, anger, and greed. Therefore, all should abandon these 3 things. The foremost negative thought that dominates our minds is lust, greed, and anger.
Our demand for materialistic possessions is increasing. Instead of being content with what we have, we become anxious when we do not obtain more.
It is not bad to have a desire, but the problem arises when we become self-centred. These are the actions that cause harm to us as well as to others. We forget our human empathy, which accumulates so much negativity in our minds. And it directly impacts our health leading to stress, cardiac problems, hypertension, and many other ailments.
How can we curb anger issues, overcome such self-centred desires and turn them into empathetic behaviour? Learn with these few techniques.
Maitri (friendliness)
Be friendly to everyone and have a feeling of friendliness. Sometimes you look forward to meeting a friend after a long-time. But as the date approaches, the friend cancels meet due to some reason.
Our first reaction is anger. Rather than raging in anger, act as a true friend by understanding and be supportive.
Karuna (compassion)
Be compassionate for those who are unhappy and less privileged. We are always in a state of cold war with someone. This prevents us from stretching a hand for help.
Showing kindness towards others will eradicate unnecessary ego from our personality.
Mudita (Goodwill)
Rejoicing in others’ happiness will free you from all kinds of envy and jealousy. Congratulate your friends, relatives, neighbours, peers, or colleagues for their achievements. And try to be happy with your present situation and achievements.
Upeksha (Indifference to evil)
Be impartial or indifferent towards people. If someone passes a sarcastic comment, don’t be impacted by what they say and enjoy the moment.

Identify the signs of anger
When you are angry your heart beats faster. Be vigilant, so you can deal with these symptoms before they build up.
Take a time-out
Avoid leaping in with an angry response. Instead, calm yourself down by counting to 10 before you act. This will curb anger.
Catch your breath
Try to slow your breathing. This will help you to stay calm and think clearly. Anger always makes you take rash decisions that you may regret later.
Exercise regularly
Exercising releases calming chemicals like dopamine and serotonin into your body. This will improve your state of mind and will make you less prone to anger.
Find some quiet time
Practising relaxation techniques like mindfulness or centring can help you to cope with stress over the longer term.
Avoid alcohol
Overindulgence can lower your inhibitions and make you more prone to outbursts.
Express your emotions
When we keep things inside for long, frustration can build up. So, talk about your feelings with friends and loved ones.
Let it go
Sometimes we have no choice but to let an issue go, even if we think it is unfair. But doing this will allow you to move past grudges or bitterness and guide you towards peace.
We suffer the consequences of all our actions. So, instead of letting your desires control you, you should control all your thoughts and emotions. A strong will to change will help you to achieve this endeavour. You will not only prevent your mind and body to fall sick but also guide your soul on a holy path.
After all, every human has different circumstances and has to walk alone ahead in life. You have to take charge of your body, mind, and soul which build your personality.
A life with led a positive attitude, enthusiasm and strength will mould our nature helpful and curb anger.
