The brand Tommy Hilfiger needs to introduction. Started at the time of Beetle era of bell buttoms and rock n roll revolution, he came a long way and now established as global ambassador. Before launching not famous Tommy Hilfiger brand, he struggled a lot an worked with various other designers and earned enough knowledge how to run a fashion house.
- About his early days?
In the 60’s he along with his friends began designing men’s clothes and selling to select clients always inspired by young crowd on the street. It was doing well but suddenly found they were out with had money crunch.
- How started again?
It was an Indian connection. One business man Mohan Murjani originally from India but based in New York came forward to help me financially and he was the one who insisted on naming the brand Tommy Hilfiger. Our partnership lasted for twenty years and then parted away.
- How different Tommy Hilfiger brand is?
It is purely an American brand. Brands are everything nautical and seafaring and sportier look. His look is clean like something from country club of from tennis for football.
- Like other designers he never tried couture?
That is all a different ball game. His emphasis on prêt and he knows designers like Dior or Ralph Lauren have their own couture collection. It is really art to itself. He has no answer why he never tried couture line. Not sure whether he will try in the near future.
- About the Motto?
Always wanted to keep it an inclusive brand and in premium positioning. Motto is pass on affordability and wearability with aspirations to customers.
- How did they got international recognition?
Everything happened in 5 years time. Started with New York and Miami took to Los Angeles and then to London, Florence and Rome. Today it is every where including India.
- About his latest collection?
This time he explored his signature love of nautical seen through a nostalgic filler where formal never influences collide with the romance of bygone era. This collection embraces the romance of the past and acknowledges the youthfulness of today.
