Without a struggle there can be no progress. And that is what model/actor Azim Khan believes in. He plays a significant role in ‘Karma Cola’, a launch series under the banner of 7th Plane Communication Pvt. Ltd., directed by Pravin Narain Agarwal. We caught the actor behind the scenes for more insights on his personal life.
Q. Tell us about your growing up days?
I am a small town guy from Uttar Pradesh. My parents and seven siblings make up for the loving family I have. I studied Engineering and surprisingly enough, managed to get good grades in the end. Also, I was the ‘Under 16’ district Cricket team captain. I loved playing cricket but that was not something I wanted to pursue as a long term profession.
Q. What is your daily routine?
At this stage in my life, I don’t have even a second to waste, so, I plan my day accordingly. It usually starts with yoga at 6 am and I love preparing my own breakfast because everyday my family can’t share brown bread and eggs with me (jokes). My mantra for each day is clean, eat and clean, work hard at the gym, make connections and spread as much happiness. Hitting the gym is something I have to follow without any cheats.
Q. What are your hobbies? Who is your idol?
I love playing the guitar and sing whenever I get time. My idol is Irrfan khan; I don’t need to explain why I idolize him as his spectacular acting abilities are known to all.
Q.What were your dreams about a good career?
I dreamt of sharing the 30 Mm screen (silver screen) with Irrfan khan. And that day is definitely going to be a super happy day for me.
Q. When did modelling happen; was it always in your mind or you just stuck by it?
Modelling was never on my mind because you see I am just 5’8. I was just randomly picked by a fashion photographer from Bangalore Mr. Shiva, only God knows what he saw in me (laughs). But yes, he confidently told me that I had a good face for print and TV media. I hope that I have done some justice to his words.
Q. What were the initial struggles when you started on this journey?
Honestly, God has been grateful to me when it came to getting work and assignments. Yes, some struggle is always there when you are a fresher in this industry but I always believe ‘if you are in a sea, you have got to learn swimming in order to survive’.
Q. Did your family support you? Financially, were there many problems?
I come from a Muslim family so initially, there were some problems. But lately, my family is glad about the kind of work I am doing. Financially, I never had any problem because I work enough to maintain a good living.

“People have stopped fearing God”
Bringing you the first look of the upcoming short film, Karma Cola, under the banner of 7th Plane Communications Pvt Ltd, Directed by Pravin Narain Agarwal, the Delhi based Director, who has to his credit the first music album in Binaural Beats and award winning movie ‘Chooda – Ek Pratha’. Karma Cola is a soul stirring movie that will wake you from the current scenario and will stir in you the emotions that talk about ethos and karma; as life will come full circle for people who think they can get away by doing anything wrong!
Dr.Sanjeev Gupta along with his wife on the sets of Karma Cola.
Somewhere down the line human has fallen prey to duality of their own personality. At one front they believe in something and on the other they do not. Dr. Sanjeev Gupta who is a part of Karma Cola believes that such movies should be made to bring about a change in mindset of the society. It is important for people to understand that there is no running away from the results of what they do in this life. According to him, it is high time for people to take precautions before they take any actions.
In conversation with us he said, “People have stopped fearing god. The mere existence of him has come under question and people do not believe in Karma. I fiercely believe that what you do in this life, no matter how long it might take, you would get the results of the same in this lifetime. Your soul becomes your judge- the moment you do something wrong, your conscience would never be at peace, however, due to a weak law system in our country, people have become fearless more towards the wrong, whereas to do something really good they tend to think hundred times.
Also, what I have noticed in past one decade is that we humans have started to take advantages of everything but happen to get attracted to wrong use of it. For example, let us talk about internet or technology, people can use it for N number of things but our youngsters who we consider as our future are mostly getting diverted to the wrong path, for which somewhere or the other I would blame the parents as well because they do not talk it out with their children. There is a need for communication with the generation today, since, this generation is quite curious about everything. The more we move away from having conversations with our children about anything, the more we are pushing them towards taking the wrong path since they would get to know various, wrong or right information over the World Wide Web.”
Dr. Gupta added that he believes it is important for the older generation to change their mindset because when they start treating both the genders equally, their sons or grandsons would do the same leading to less crimes against the other gender. “Karma Cola also gives out a message that life comes full circle, no matter”, says Sanjeev.
Dr.Sanjeev Gupta talks about Karma Cola.
He believes that commercial movies are made to make one feel good about life, however, they tend to show not even a percent of reality but when we talk about documentary, it comes right from the society with real people acting in it. So, it tends to have major effect on human’s mind. “I would like to tell all the youngsters that do not get carried away with what your peers tell you. Remember, your own conscience is your best friend. So, before you take any step, just consult your own self and if you feel you are doing good then go for it but if you have even a percent of doubt, do not take the step.”
Ending the conversation with us, Sanjeev said, “Most of the crimes are because of ego clashes in a relationship or because of ego hurt due to rejection. Relationships are losing their charm, meaning and existence. These days romance is reduced to physicality or the benefit a person gives to another. It is really important to correct this thought process in the beginning and it should start from home itself. Once such things are brought under control, crime rate would be seen coming down. Karma Cola focuses on that very reason which has become very important to talk about- Sexual Desire. So, every person in the society should watch this movie to either see their own reflection or to understand which path should not be taken in future.”

The Man Who Wins, is the Man Who Thinks He Can!
Prateek Jindal is a businessman, who runs a very successful business of Agricultural commodity and manages an NGO called UMID United My Ek India Dream Foundation also known as Sapna Ek Bharat Ka, whose agendas are road safety and to end hunger, since, he belongs to food industry and is focused towards eliminating hunger and also, runs a school for orphans called Sakshat which means educated.
Prateek Jindal on the sets of Karma Cola.
“Through Karma Cola, I am here to understand more about the concept and I feel it is a nice way to make women aware and understand the issues which can probably happen with them any time any day. Even government is taking their own steps to make sure that through some or the other way, people have knowledge about people related to them. The movie also talks about a lesson for men which explains that one day, sooner or later, they will get the fruit of what they do,” says Prateek.
He believes that one need to communicate a message through different means and it might take time to get settle in the mindset of people but at least someone has taken the step. “People have become careless about the law and system and do not have any fear of wrongs they have been doing. This movie would become a way to show them the mirror of reality.”
Prateek Jindal talks about Karma Cola.
Prateek believes and practices, that change is constant but changing people and mindset is not an easy task. “You have to pave out a way to do so and in the country we are living in, putting across message through an artistic way has always worked. And word of mouth is something that travels faster, so even if one gets affected with what we are trying to say, then we have done something right.”
Prateek is focused towards making a change. He realizes that the number of problems are equal to the population this country has but he says if every one of us will start working towards one cause wholeheartedly, then one day, nothing of such sort will ever exist in our country. For which, he believes, it is really important to change one’s mindset. People should start looking at social responsibility as literally as possible, instead of just doing it for the sake of it because government has told them to do so.

“I do not believe in anything till I face it.”
She leaves an impact, wait for her: Aanchal Goswami
Boldness, beauty and innocence are a rare combination but Aanchal Goswami, the upcoming, budding and talented actress, starring in Karma Cola, has it all. This 21 years old Political Science Honors student has been an active member of Debating Society in New Delhi. Right after graduating from college, she started to try her hands in acting-industry and managed to fetch some TVCs, product promos, TV series and so on. And now, she is the lead actress in upcoming Karma Kola movie that talks about the social stigma people are scared to talk about.
Karma Kola is a story that clearly outlines, what you sow is what you reap. In a tete-a-tete with Aanchal Goswami, we got to know about this caterpillar who has just transformed into a beautiful butterfly,
How did you get this opportunity?
I was at the spot to audition for a TVC but my casting director asked me to give audition for this short film as well. He narrated me the entire story and it quite appealed to me.
I thought of giving it a chance but I was not prepared.
That is when Gautam Babbar who was present at the moment motivated me. To get into the role, I thought to myself that what if I go through the same scene in reality? I put myself in the victim’s place and enacted everything I could feel.
I still remember that I could not stop crying that day and later on, even Pravin Narain Aggarwal who is directing the film said that he was on verge of crying. And frankly for me, nothing is much more important than that. It was a huge compliment for me.
Was acting in your to-do-list?
I am trained in Belly dancing, Salsa and now taking training in Kathak. So, professionally I aspired to be a dancer but acting happened by chance. I love free-style since there is nothing compared to an art that comes out straight from heart.
Have you thought of what sort of roles you would like to take up?
I would like to portray roles like Alia Bhatt has done in Highway. I really adore her.
She was recently called a dodo of the industry, does that bother you?
I am fine with it because she is an actor and she is doing really well. This field has nothing to do with general knowledge; it is all about expressing and transporting your expression to the audience.
What was your family’s reaction when you told them about Karma-Kola?
My mother was really worried when she got to know that I am doing such kind of a movie. She would repeatedly ask me if I would be literally raped and I would make her understand that it is a movie and nothing happens for real in the reel life. She was really scared but she gave me a go ahead with it. I am fortunate that my family has always been very supportive in whatever I choose to do.
Do you think this movie would be accepted by every section of the society?
I think this movie would appeal to every section of the society. Yes, I agree that some might watch it and make fun and some might ignore it but there would be some people who would carry the message with them and if even one person gets affected with the thought of what the movie preaches then I think we have brought our bit of change in the society.
Stardom, do you have any plans to get there?
I do not want to jump straight to stardom but would prefer to take small steps towards it. I am open to whatever work I get, small or big, but it should have some substance in it.
What is your ultimate goal?
I would surely want to start a dancing school which would be free of cost, wherein everyone can get trained either under me or under other choreographers.
Have you become a star amongst your friends?
Yes, I have already become a star for my friends. I have a friend who saves my pictures and shows it to everyone by saying ‘She is my friend and she comes on TV’. It does feel good. Yes, in real, I am no star and for some I would not be a star ever, so for people who feel I am already a star, I am really happy.
“I do not believe in anything till I face it.”
At last, what is it that you would want to change?
It is a myth that only girls are raped, in fact even men are also at risk. I know we are living in a society where a girl is blamed for everything wrong that happens with her but would a guy be blamed equally? Does a guy seduce or invites the same way girls are blamed, when he wears shorts or revealing clothes like low waist jeans? I do not think so. Whatever is said is all about how a person thinks. It is all about the mentality which can only be erased if we youngsters step against it and make that change.
