Maharashtra Awaits Decision: Amit Shah Meets Mahayuti Leaders to Finalize Next CM
Amit Shah meets Mahayuti leaders, including Eknath Shinde, Devendra Fadnavis, and Ajit Pawar, to finalize Maharashtra's new CM and government formation.
Amit Shah Holds Crucial Meeting with Mahayuti Leaders to Decide Maharashtra’s Next Chief Minister and Finalize Government Formation
Union Home Minister Amit Shah is scheduled to hold a crucial meeting in New Delhi with the top leaders of Maharashtra’s Mahayuti alliance, including caretaker Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, BJP leader Devendra Fadnavis, and NCP’s Ajit Pawar, to decide on the next chief minister of Maharashtra. The discussions will outline the structure of the new government, which follows the alliance’s decisive victory in the recent state assembly elections.

Ajit Pawar confirmed that he, along with Shinde and Fadnavis, will attend the crucial meeting in Delhi on Thursday. He further revealed that discussions will be done regarding the leadership position in the new government, which will have a chief minister and two deputy chief ministers.
Shinde Agrees to BJP’s Decision
Eknath Shinde, who has been at the helm as chief minister, said he was fully committed to the BJP’s decision on the next leadership. Speaking to the press in Thane, Shinde said, “There is a meeting in Delhi tomorrow with Amit Shah, and all decisions will be finalized there.” He said he would not be a hurdle in the process, reiterating his loyalty to the alliance.

Shinde’s claims are when speculations and demands were mounting for his continuation as chief minister of the Shiv Sena citing Mahayuti alliance victory by landslide during his tenure. His latest utterances however point towards handing over reins to BJP nominee, in all probability to be Devendra Fadnavis who had been front runner.
I have assured Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Amit Shah that I will abide by their decision. There is no speed breaker from our side,” Shinde remarked, adding that his tenure as CM was supported by the BJP and thanking the party’s leadership for their trust.
Swearing-in ceremony expected
Ajit Pawar said the new government would be sworn in on November 30 or December 1. “There will be two deputy chief ministers in the new government,” he confirmed, signaling a collaborative power-sharing arrangement within the Mahayuti alliance.
Despite speculation about his sentiments, Shinde dismissed reports of dissatisfaction over not being reappointed as chief minister. He emphasized his role as a committed worker of the Mahayuti alliance, saying, “For me, CM stands for ‘common man,’ not chief minister.”
Mahayuti’s Historic Win
The Mahayuti alliance’s victory in the Maharashtra assembly elections was a political milestone, winning 230 seats in the 288-member House. The BJP emerged as the dominant force, winning 132 constituencies, while Shiv Sena garnered 57 seats and Ajit Pawar’s NCP clinched 41. This was a significant comeback for the alliance, which had faced setbacks in the Lok Sabha elections earlier this year.
Contrarily, the Congress-led Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) lost miserably and could secure only 16 seats. Other groups also faced an uphill task, including Sharad Pawar’s NCP(SP) and Uddhav Thackeray’s Shiv Sena (UBT), which had a poor showing in the assembly.
The Way Forward
Soon as Maharashtra awaits an official nod on government, political landscape gets geared for change under its newly emerged government. Amit Shah can hold key to discussions which major political figures express a united interest under whom these activities remain directed towards consolidating stability and efficient functioning within the state.
The Mahayuti alliance’s electoral success has vindicated its hold on the state of Maharashtra, and all the decisions taken now will contribute to its leadership and agenda in the future. The swearing-in ceremony will therefore not only usher in a new administration but also a reflection of the commitment by the alliance towards its electorates.
