The controversy began when Shah, while speaking in the Rajya Sabha, said that it has become a fashion to take Ambedkar’s name. He further stated that if people had taken God’s name so many times, they would have got a place in heaven .
The Congress party was quick to react, with party leader Rahul Gandhi accusing Shah of harboring hatred for Ambedkar. Gandhi said that those who believe in Manusmriti will definitely have problems with Ambedkar.
