Prime Minister Narendra Modi embarked on a significant two-state visit to West Bengal and Bihar on Friday, launching a series of projects that promise to reshape connectivity and infrastructure in the region. His day began in Gaya, Bihar, where he addressed a massive public gathering, and later continued in Kolkata, West Bengal, where he inaugurated the much-awaited metro lines. The New Kolkata Metro Lines Inauguration stands out as a landmark event, signaling faster travel and better urban transport for millions.
PM Modi’s Power-Packed Bihar Visit
Prime Minister Modi’s visit to Bihar focused on key infrastructure upgrades and public welfare initiatives. Landing in Gaya around 11 AM, he was greeted by thousands of enthusiastic supporters who had gathered under large tents to witness the historic announcements.
The projects inaugurated in Bihar covered bridges, highways, power, healthcare, and housing—all vital sectors that directly impact citizens’ lives. The Aunta–Simaria Bridge, built at a cost of ₹1,870 crore, will significantly reduce travel detours and ease traffic congestion in the state. Similarly, the ₹1,900 crore upgrade of National Highway-31 (Bakhtiyarpur–Mokama section) will ensure smoother, faster journeys for commuters and freight.
A major highlight was the Buxar Thermal Power Plant, worth ₹6,880 crore, which will add 660 MW of capacity to the state’s electricity grid, strengthening Bihar’s energy supply. On the healthcare front, PM Modi inaugurated the Homi Bhabha Cancer Hospital in Muzaffarpur, providing advanced treatment facilities to patients who previously had to travel long distances.

Railway connectivity received a boost as he flagged off the Amrit Bharat Express (Gaya–Delhi) and the Buddhist Circuit Train (Vaishali–Koderma), designed to improve both daily travel and tourism. Additionally, under the PM Awas Yojana, beneficiaries received house keys, reinforcing the government’s push for affordable housing.
New Kolkata Metro Lines Inauguration
After completing his engagements in Bihar, Prime Minister Modi reached Kolkata at 4:15 PM to participate in the New Kolkata Metro Lines Inauguration. At Jessore Road Metro Station, he flagged off the metro service on the Noapara–Jai Hind Bimanbandar stretch, covering 13.61 km. This new line directly connects passengers to Kolkata Airport, making air travel more convenient for daily commuters and tourists alike.
To mark the occasion, PM Modi also took a metro ride on the newly inaugurated route, symbolizing the government’s commitment to strengthening public transport systems. He virtually launched two more metro services—the Sealdah–Esplanade line and the Beleghata–Hemanta Mukhopadhyay line—adding more arteries to the city’s growing metro network.

Public Address in Dumdum
At 4:45 PM, PM Modi reached the Central Jail Ground in Dumdum, where he inaugurated multiple development projects for West Bengal. The day concluded with his address to the public at 5:30 PM, where he spoke about the transformative vision of these projects. He highlighted how improved connectivity, modern infrastructure, and enhanced amenities would accelerate growth not just in West Bengal and Bihar, but across eastern India.
Developmental Push for the East
The New Kolkata Metro Lines Inauguration and the string of Bihar projects represent a strong push towards integrated regional growth. While Bihar received key upgrades in highways, power, healthcare, and railways, West Bengal witnessed a leap forward in modern urban transport with the metro expansion. Together, these initiatives underscore the government’s focus on infrastructure-led development and connectivity.
Prime Minister Modi’s two-state visit was not only about inaugurating projects but also about presenting a vision of India that moves faster, connects better, and grows stronger.
