Uttarakhand Crisis: President’s rule imposed in the state

President rule has been imposed in the Harish Rawat’s led government state Uttarakhand by the centre on grounds of “breakdown of governance”.

The decision came under the wake of political crisis, which was triggered by a rebellion move in the ruling Congress party. President Pranab Mukherjee on Sunday morning signed a proclamation under article 356 of the Constitution dismissing the congress government headed by Harish Rawat.

Union cabinet recommended President Pranab Mukherjee to dismiss the congress headed government in the state. He placed the assembly under suspended animation.

Notably, the political crisis arose in the state after the controversial circumstances in which Appropriation Bill was declared passed in the Assembly.

According to reports, congress rebels welcomed the presidential rule and said centre was forced to take this decision because there was “murder of democracy in the state.”
