On Friday, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath stated that he will eradicate holidays on birth anniversaries of political icons and great leaders from schools and colleges. The new success mantra of Yogi is, No School, College holidays on Jayantis.

On the occasion of the 126th birth anniversary of Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar, Adityanath said, “I am going to make an announcement that may not sound pleasant to many, but the tradition to declare holidays on jayantis of great leaders and political icons.” Former Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh Mayawati declared this day as a public holiday.
Schools and colleges in Uttar Pradesh will not get holidays on birth or death anniversaries of great icons. Adityanath said that the ritual of closing schools and colleges on such occasion should come to termination and institutions should remain open on these days to host at least two-hour programmes on the life of these icons, and their benefaction to the society and country.

Recently, Yogi’s government had ordered primary schools across Uttar Pradesh to host special events on the life and the ideology of Ambedkar on April 13 or 15. Adityanath said, “Students remain unaware about the occasion and about the great personalities. They think the holiday is due to a Sunday.” Stop holidays and open schools, he said. He feels that such events will raise awareness among the youth and new generations, and will inspire them to contribute to the nation and society.
Yogi said,” Due to such holidays, the 220 days of academic session has been reduced to 120 days. There will be no days left for teaching, if the tradition of holidays continues.”
Yogi also said that there will be special scholarships for students, ranging from primary education to secondary education, and for technical and medical education.
In his speech, he mentioned the efforts of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to develop all five places associated with Dr. B.R. Ambedkar.
