Residents of Assam to plant trees after heavy rainfall claimed lives of birds
With hundreds of birds who have been killed by the heavy rain, which are accompanied by a hailstorm that lashed in Assam’s Majuli district, residents are now planning that more trees need to be planted, in order to provide shelter and protect the birds.
This incident is the first where a large number of birds have been killed due to heavy rain near Garamur in Majuli district.
A resident has said that, he was very sad to see that hundred birds lost their lives in the storm.

“In Garamur bird colony we have seen that thousands of birds are living together in two to three trees and its difficult for them to stay together in these trees. So, the solution is to plant more trees to provide them shelter and protect them from storms and heavy rain,” he added.
Meanwhile, another resident from Majuli have also said that there were dead birds in his colony.
As many as different species of birds, which includes the Stork, Pond heron, Cattle egret, crows among others, were also killed.
These birds, which further depend on the horticulture crops in the vicinity, roost on the coconut trees in the surrounding.
