Punjab has the highest population of obese people
A report has revealed that Punjab has the highest population of obese people in the country and according to report, it is a product of the lack of nutritious food along with the intake of processed foods and insufficient physical activity, while others may experience as a result of genetic predisposition.
Again and again, the World Health Organization has revised its index on the global burden of obesity. The consulting firm McKinsey Global Institute published a report couple of years ago, the estimated overall cost of obesity have gone up to a whopping $ 2 billion.
The Union Health Minister, J.P Nadda recently told in the Rajya Sabha that Punjab has the highest number of obese people in the country, while men and women of Tripura Meghalaya are the leanest.
According to estimates from a National Family Health Survey 2005-06 figures, Tripura has only 4.8 percent of men and 7.1 percent of women as obese, while in Meghalaya, only 5.9 percent of men and 5.3 percent of women are overweight.
