Proper investigation will be done in JNU missing case : Pranab Mukherjee
The President of India Pranab Mukherjee on Sunday promised instant action into the JNU missing case after meeting the Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal.
Notably, Delhi CM had earlier urged him to direct the Modi government to increase up their efforts to trace the JNU student who has been missing from last three weeks.
Highlights from the Meeting
After meeting the president, Kejriwal said that the President has promised to seek a complete report from the Home Ministry and the Jawaharlal Nehru University.
Later the CM and the Aam Aadmi Party leader tweeted, “He (President) assured all support in JNU missing case.”
The Delhi Chief Minister has sought the President’s intervention regarding the case of Najeeb Ahmed, who went missing from the Jawaharlal Nehru University on 15 October after a quarrel with alleged members of the BJP-affiliated Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP).

However, the members of ABVP have denied any involvement in his disappearance.

In a letter to the President of India, Kejriwal expressed his shock over the police’s behavior in JNU missing case, that how did police not question the students who allegedly attacked Najeeb until the 4th of November.
“I humbly request you to urgently intervene in the turn of episodes of JNU missing case, in your ability as the Visitor of this premier university,” he said.

“I also request you to immediately direct the BJP led central government to accelerate the investigation process to find Najeeb. We are at a point of time where every single moment counts”, he further added.
The AAP leader stated that the fact that Delhi Police had not been able to trace Najeeb raised significant concerns about the law and order situation in the national capital region.
Kejriwal added that it is a shame on the government that the students struggling to find their missing friend faced police action and a completely insensitive JNU administration.
“Since the ABVP members are involved, there is a general idea that Delhi Police is not acting effectively and responsibly. The role played by the Vice Chancellor of the University is even more problematic.”
He accused the Vice- Chancellor of the Delhi University of not taking any action against the ABVP students who attacked Ahmed.
And as the police cracked down a JNU student’s protest at the India Gate memorial in the heart of the national capital, Kejriwal urged the government not to turn the capital into a police state.
The Chief Minister sarcastically said that if half the number of policemen deployed on Sunday had been utilized into JNU missing case, Najeeb would have been found by now.
