President Mukherjee stressed on education, infrastructure in urban areas:- The Indian President Pranab Mukherjee on Monday stressed on developing education and health infrastructure, while beginning urbanisation which he called as a continuous process that can never be stopped.
The President has expressed hope that the central government, led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi will fulfil its promise of providing “housing for all by 2022”.
He also handed over keys to 1,088 persons and ownership certificates for the EWS houses built under the ‘Integrated Housing and Slum Development Project’ at an event at the Jiwaji University.
Laying stress on housing, education and health
“Urbanisation can never stop. It will continue to take place as the economy advances further. We should make different schemes so that in five to ten years, everyone gets a house. Once there was a slogan of ‘roti, kapda and makan mang raha hai Hindustan.”
“I would like to add education and health infrastructure to this as these sectors are also required so that the people of our country get the strength and energy to take the nation forward,” Mukherjee said.
He also congratulated Prime Minister Modi for providing houses to poor, especially those people who are living in the rural areas.
“Today, I see a dream that our country which has the second highest population in the world and a vibrant democracy rises from strength to strength. Now, I am very much confident that the steps the current government has taken for providing houses to all will be fulfilled as has been promised,” he added.
During the event, the President spoke in Hindi and at the end apologised for any mistake.

The urbanisation process
Mukherjee stated that as in the year 2012, the housing shortage in the urban India was to that of around 1.88 crore and was further increasing. If the issue is not addressed soon, it is expected to touch 3.5 crore mark by the end of 2022.
While the urbanisation is a continuous and desirous process, governments has to ensure that it has tackled with a multi-pronged approach and must not just include urban planning but also an investment in the health and education infrastructure in rural India.
“I am happy that the Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi made a scheme called PM Awaas Yojna, which in future will ensure that all people get houses by 2022. The problem is deep and is not that easy to solve,” he said.
Apart fron the President, Drinking Water and Sanitation Minister Narendra Singh Tomar, Madhya Pradesh Governor O P Kohli and state minister Maya Singh were also present at the event. Whereas, Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan was unable to attend the event due to his ill health.
