Pralhad Joshi criticized Justice D’Cunha’s report on Karnataka’s PPE deal, calling him an agent
Union Minister Pralhad Joshi criticized Justice Michael D’Cunha, who has been investigating the Karnataka government’s purchase of personal protective equipment (PPE) kits during the COVID-19 pandemic. Joshi accused the retired judge of acting as an “agent” and not as an impartial judge.
His comments came after the D’Cunha Commission, which was set up to probe the procurement deal, released an interim report recommending the prosecution of former Karnataka Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa and former Health Minister B Sriramulu for allegedly purchasing 3 lakh PPE kits from Chinese companies in 2020.

In a public meeting in Shiggaon, Karnataka, Joshi questioned why Justice D’Cunha released the interim report during election time. He claimed that the move was an attempt to divert public attention from the government’s issues. Joshi also alleged that the Congress-led state government had increased the prices of milk and alcohol and was issuing Waqf notices on farmers’ lands, violating a Supreme Court ruling.

The union minister further claimed that a Muslim flag had been hoisted at Shiggaon Santhe Maidan, a first in the area, and suggested that the government was trying to seize land from poor Muslims under the Waqf Act. He urged people to vote for BJP candidate Bharat Bommai to prevent such actions and protect the land.
In response to Joshi’s remarks, Karnataka Health Minister Dinesh Gundu Rao condemned the attack on Justice D’Cunha, calling it defamatory and disrespectful. Rao defended the judge, stating that he was known for his integrity and honesty. He called for Joshi to be prosecuted for making slanderous comments and said that the Union Minister was trying to intimidate the judge while he was conducting an investigation into COVID-related irregularities in Karnataka.
The controversy highlights ongoing tensions between the BJP and Congress in Karnataka ahead of the upcoming elections.
