Sources revealed that at least 24 of the 153 Liberal MPs have been meeting privately to discuss the possibility of ousting him in an effort to protect the party from a potential election disaster.

The dissatisfaction among MPs has been growing, especially after the Liberal Party lost two of its safest constituencies in special elections held in June and September.
