Narsingh Yadav doping case: CBI begin investigation
The CBI will most probably begin a formal probe in the doping scandal that allegedly involves wrestler Narsingh Yadav according to reports. As sources on Monday said that the agency had also started examining a complaint and material received from the Prime Minister’s Office on this matter.
The CBI has received a reference from the PMO which came through the Department of Personnel and Training, sources said.
As per sources, CBI officers are now examining material received along with the complaint which is filed by the Wrestling Federation of India (WFI). A formal probe in a form of a preliminary enquiry or a regular case, which would be soon initiated, they said.

What had happened?
Narsingh Yadav was slapped with a four-year ban in the month of August by the Court of Arbitration (CAS) during the Rio Olympics barring him from competing in the games. The WFI had been demanding a CBI probe into the matter since then.
The wrestler was tested positive for the banned substance for about 20 days ahead of the start of the Olympic Games.

He also claimed his food and drinks were spiked at SAI hostel, which is in Sonepat. He, however, failed to provide any substantial evidence to substantiate his allegations.
The wrestler was barred from representing India at the Rio Games in the 74 kg freestyle wrestling event, but India’s National Anti Doping Agency (NADA) had later cleared the wrestler for the Olympic Games by further accepting his contention that he was a victim of “sabotage”.
Dope Test and Rio Olympics
Also during the course of the Games, the CAS had slapped a ban on him for flunking in the dope test following the Word Anti-Doping Agency’s challenge to the clean chit given to him by NADA, just three days ahead of his scheduled opening bout at the Olympics.
However, during the hearing held in Rio de Janeiro, NADA had said that if any further decision was rendered at a later stage by a criminal court in India, which could confirm the alleged sabotage, then any award made by the ad-hoc panel will be reviewed by the Supreme Court in Switzerland, where the CAS is based.
