JNU Missing case : Najeeb Ahmed was on anti-depressants
It seems that a lot of angles are yet to be disclosed in JNU missing case. Missing Jawaharlal Nehru University student Najeeb Ahmed had been on anti-depressants and taking medicines for insomnia and also obsessive compulsive disorder, police sources said.
Investigators of JNU missing case have revealed that they accessed prescriptions from the doctor, he allegedly visited thrice in the two weeks before he went missing for treatment. They had also found out that he may have been emotionally disturbed.
Police have suspected that Ahmed could have left the JNU hostel voluntarily. Sources have revealed they may raid JNU hostel.
Ahmed is missing since October 15
Ahmed, a 27-year-old first-year MSc student, has been missing from the JNU campus since October 15 after he got into an altercation with the members of the RSS-backed Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad. Till now there has been no information about his whereabouts.
“After a scuffle with ABVP members, reportedly Najeeb Ahmed has felt depressed and he did not sleep that night. He was upset and he called his mother, crying and told her that he would soon leave the hostel. His mother, who was already aware of his condition, asked him to further stay put till she reached the hostel,” a police source said.
“His mother has also called his roommate and requested him not to leave Najeeb Ahmed alone until the time she reached the hostel. Though his mother has further refused that Najeeb was on any kind of medication for depression and had some neurological problems, his doctor has also confirmed it,” a police source said.
The doctor had also told police that he often spoke about leaving the hostel as he was uncomfortable with the environment and felt depressed.

“On the night of October 14, Qasim, his roommate did not leave his side all night. In the morning, Najeeb’s mother had called Qasim to tell him that she had reached Anand Vihar and soon will reach the hostel. It was then that Qasim had left the room to go to the washroom in order to freshen up. When he returned after 10 minutes, Najeeb was missing. His phone, wallet and also laptop were lying on the table. No one has entered the room and Qasim could not hear anyone call for Najeeb. It is unlikely that someone would have abducted him,” a police source said.
Ahmed’s roommate, Qasim, has said that he had given him three pills on the night of the incident as directed by his mother. But, he did not know if they were anti-depressants.
The police team has also accessed a list of Ahmed’s childhood friends from Tamil Nadu’s Vellore. “It is possible that Najeeb has visited his childhood friends. We have also sent a team to the addresses to find him. A raid has also been conducted in Jamia Nagar Islamia and the hostel. The search is on,” a senior police officer said.
