The incident traces back to October 12, when Baba Siddique, aged 66, was shot outside the Mumbai office of his son, MLA Zeeshan Siddique. The assailants—Gautam, Gurnail Singh from Haryana, and Dhramraj Kashyap from Uttar Pradesh—allegedly executed the attack on the orders of Anmol Bishnoi, brother of Lawrence Bishnoi, a prominent gangster. Gautam, who was able to evade capture after the attack, reportedly has connections with the Lawrence Bishnoi gang and confessed that the murder was planned by the gang.

Immediately after the attack, Singh and Kashyap were caught by the authorities, but Gautam managed to flee. Following his escape, Gautam traveled to Omkareshwar, Madhya Pradesh, where he sought refuge with gang associates. However, the Mumbai Police had been monitoring his movements and kept track of individuals connected to him.
Over the following days, police monitored 45 people close to Gautam, including family members and associates. They identified four individuals who were in regular contact with him, suspecting that they might help him flee the country. The police discovered that a house near Gautam’s residence served as a safehouse. Setting up a trap, they managed to apprehend him along with his accomplices on Sunday.
Four suspect were additionally arrested —Anurag Kashyap, Gyan Prakash Tripathi, Akash Srivastava, and Akhileshendra Pratap Singh—were arrested for sheltering him and aiding his escape attempt. So far, authorities have detained 20 individuals in connection with the case.
Police have also indicated that Zeeshan Siddique may be a potential target, as his photo was reportedly discovered on the mobile phone of one of the accused shooters. Investigations are ongoing to uncover further details and prevent any additional threats against the Siddique family.
