Kejriwal urges Amit Shah to tackle rising crime in Delhi, calls it the crime capital
Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has written to Union Home Minister Amit Shah, raising alarm over the deteriorating law and order situation in the national capital. Kejriwal has requested an urgent meeting to discuss increasing crime rates, including Delhi’s top ranking in crimes against women and murders among 19 major metro cities in India.
“Delhi’s law and order is under the Central Government, but it is now being referred to as the crime capital both domestically and internationally,” Kejriwal wrote in his letter, expressing concern about Delhi’s deteriorating reputation. He brought attention to a number of concerning developments, such as the 350% increase in drug-related crimes, the growing threat of extortion gangs, and bomb threats to airports and schools.

Kejriwal directly criticized the BJP-led central government for its alleged inability to manage law and order in the city. He accused Amit Shah of turning Delhi into a jungle raj and claimed criminals no longer fear law enforcement. “Bullets are being fired openly. People live in terror everywhere. The BJP has failed to handle Delhi’s law and order,” Kejriwal posted on X .

Accompanying his posts, the Aam Aadmi Party’s official account took a dig at Amit Shah with a caption that read, “Seeing Delhi bleeding, Mogambo is happy.”
Kejriwal’s criticism follows a series of incidents, including bomb threats at schools earlier this week, which raised concerns about public safety. Despite repeated demands from AAP MPs to discuss the law and order situation in Parliament, they claim the issue has been neglected.

Meanwhile, the Delhi High Court has directed the Delhi Government and Delhi Police to draft a comprehensive action plan and Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) to address bomb threats and other emergencies. The court has set an eight-week deadline for implementation.
With public safety at stake, Kejriwal has demanded answers from Amit Shah regarding measures being taken to curb crime in the national capital.
