Pellet guns would not be banned
J&K HC refuses to ban pellet guns:- The Jammu and Kashmir High Court has rejected to ban pellet guns. The request was put forward by the Kashmir Bar Association. The Court said that the current conditions n the valley was very unstable and in such violent situations the use of force was inevitable.
The plea that wanted officers who ordered use of pellet guns or fired it themselves was also rejected by the bench. The bench comprising Chief Justice N Paul Vasanthakumar and Justice Ali Mohammad Magrey directed that medical treatments and care be provided to people in and outside the state who were affected by the pellet guns.
It said that specialists were to be invited to the State to treat the victims and if specialists were not available, the person should be shifted to someplace where he or she could get the proper attention.

What court said?
The court said- “Having regard to the ground situation prevailing as of now and the fact that Government of India, Ministry of Home Affairs has already constituted a Committee of Experts through its Memorandum dated 26 July, 2016 for exploring other alternative to pellet guns. Before filing of the report by the Expert Committee and a decision taken at the government level, we are not inclined to prohibit the use of pellet guns in rare and extreme situations.”
The court also added that the kind of force to be used in a particular situation or place is dependent on the person in-charge of the place. Earlier this month, Home Minister Rajnath Singh had approved the use of PAVA shells to control violent crowds instead of pellet guns, which were cause a lot of harm, injury and blindness to people but now High Court has said that Pellet guns would not be banned.
