Is Pakistan a threat? : India and the US
US President Barack Obama extends a hand to shake with Prime Minister Narendra Modi after his statements to the press after a meeting in the Oval Office of the White House in Washington.
Barack Obama and Narendra Modi
The flowering of relations between India and the US on display this week in Washington it has something to do with the personal relationship between President Barack Obama and Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and much more to do with their mutual interest to confront China. The most immediate threat to the common security interests, however, comes from Pakistan.
US authorities finally seem to be losing patience with Pakistan’s double game in Afghanistan and its support for key Taliban factions. the United States has sent two clear messages to the military leadership of Pakistan in recent weeks, killing a drone strike in Baluchistan province previously off limits Taliban leader Mullah Mansour Pakistan and refuses to subsidize the sale of F-16 fighter aircraft of Pakistan Air Force.
It is true that this is a familiar refrain. But if (as is likely), the Pakistan Army continues to block any approach, at least it will be clearer intransigence.
