India uses 15 year old data to fight drugs
The United Nations sees India as a “potentially large opiate market”, yet the Centre is fighting the battle against drugs with figures that are 15 years old.
The Indian government has to send data on drug abuse in the population to the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) every year in order to various international drug control treaties.
Fight against drugs
This year too like all the other years, they have sent the data for 2001.
The World Drug Report was released on June 23 showing “no data available” for India yet again.
According to a source in Health Ministry, the UN does not accept 2001 data and hence the leave the column for India blank.
Well according to the AIIMS study 2015, Punjab has a high rate of dependency over drugs. Still the UN did not receive any such information regarding drug abuse.
