India hardly pays attention to research: President
President of India Pranab Mukherjee has said that India is a country which pays minimum attention to research and also added that the country should be investing more time in R&D (Research and Development)
The President said after receiving the first copy of the book titled ‘The Education President’ which was released by Vice President M. Hamid Ansari. Only 0.6 percent of India’s GDP (Gross Domestic Product) is spent on research whereas comparatively China spent 2.8 percent of its trillion economy, five percent in US and three percent in Japan.
The President also feels that to create a knowledgeable society, we should invest more in research and development.

He also addressed his concerns over the quality of education being imparted in the country.
He further said that India has a wide network of education comprising 38,000 colleges and 757 universities.
Moreover, he brought a point in notice that, while India’s teachers and students are both talented, but no Indian since C.V Raman in 1930 has won the Nobel Prize from an Indian University.
President Pranab Mukherjee has also called for “cross fertilization” of ideas and academic freedom.
