Haryana will adopt Seechewal model to clean Saraswati: Khattar

Haryana will adopt Seechewal model to clean Saraswati: Khattar:- Manohar Lal Khattar, Chief Minister on Tuesday has said that his government will implement the model adopted by the environmentalist Balbir Singh Seechewal in order to revive the holy Kali Bein, a rivulet of the Beas in Punjab, in Haryana villages to further curb water pollution.

During a visit to Sultanpur Lodhi where the rivulet flows, Khattar has said that the Seechewal model seemed to be best suited in order to clean the Saraswati, the mythical river which his government has revived recently by flowing water into water in its supposed course.

Khattar has also praised Seechewal for further motivating villagers to turn around a polluted rivulet.

“The Seechewal model is very economical and also needs to be implemented across the country in order to support the central government’s Clean India campaign,” he said. Responding to a media query on the Sutlej Yamuna Link (SYL) issue, Khattar has said that the matter is very ‘sensitive and important for the government.”

“This is a very old issue and both states understand it. The matter is before the Supreme Court and all states will have to accept the apex court’s verdict in this regard,” he said.

On Punjab and Haryana’s claim over Chandigarh as their sole state capital, Khattar said, “Both the states have been making claim over Chandigarh for a long time. We will try to solve the issue with mutual understanding.”

On moisture, cut being further charged from paddy growers, he said that it had become necessary to adopt this formula as there used to be a number of complaints regarding these overcharging by millers and ‘arhtiyas’ in the name of moisture content.

He mentioned that no money was being charged from those farmers whose crops had moisture content of up of to 17%.

During his visit to Nirmal Kutiya at Sultanpur Lodhi, Khattar held a brief meeting with Seechewal before taking a boat ride on the Kali Bein. He also visited treatment plants wherein Seechewal, also a member of the Punjab Pollution Control Board (PPCB), explained his model of cleaning the rivulet and installing a low-cost water treatment plant.
