Ex-governor A R Kidwai passes away: Haryana declares three days mourn

The Haryana government has declared a three-day state mourning from dates August 24 to 26, in order to mark the respect to the former state Governor A R Kidwai, 96, who breathed his last at a private hospital situated in New Delhi on Wednesday.

During the state mourning, the national flag will fly at the half mast and there would be no further official entertainment during this period, said one of the government spokesperson.

Kidwai remained Governor of Haryana from July 7, 2004 to July 27, 2009. He has also served as Governor of Bihar twice and once of West Bengal. He was also the Chairman of the Union Public Service Commission.

Haryana Governor Kaptan Singh Solanki and also the Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar have expressed their deep grief over the demise of the former Governor.

He is survived by his two sons and four daughters. Dr Kidwai was born in the year 1920 in Baragaon village of Barabanki district in Uttar Pradesh.

Solanki has said that, the country has lost a great freedom fighter, Gandhian leader, an able administrator and also an educationist. He made some remarkable contribution to the freedom struggle, especially in the Quit India Movement, he added.
