Delhi’s new tag “Stalking Capital”
If the “rape capital” tag was not enough embarrassing, Delhi has now earned another dubious title, named as India’s stalking capital and this is according to the latest data from the National Crime Records Bureau.
Stalking cases have doubled in the city last year, jumping from a number of 541 in 2014 to 1,124 in 2015.
That has nor placed Delhi in second spot among all the states.
Only Maharashtra, with 1,399 cases, had a higher number of the stalking. incidents. No other city came anywhere close.
The spurt in the stalking was in sync with an overall rise in the crimes against women in Delhi.
There were 17,104 such cases in 2015, up from the number of 15,265 in the previous year.

These also included 5,367 cases of molestation (4,179 in 2014, 3,345 in 2013) and 2,199 rape cases, again up from 2,096 in the previous year.
According to NCRB, most of the victims of sexual assault fall in the age group of 18-30. In 90% of the cases, the accused were also known to the victims.
Some shocking crimes against women were reported during the year, such as the murder of a girl in a busy Anand Parbat market by her stalker in May.
In September, police had to arrest its own constable on charges of harassing a Delhi University student in east Delhi.
The year also saw police cracking down on some of the stalkers and harassers.
