Dalits protest in Gujarat, refuse to dispose carcasses
While continuing their protest against the mistreatment from the cow vigilante groups and the upper castes, the entire Dalit community in several districts of Gujarat has refused to dispose of the dead animals.
The entire thing started, when a group of Dalits were trashed for skinning a dead cow, in a village that is near to Una in Saurashtra.
Communities like the Dalit Manav Adhikar Movement, who are fighting for the rights of the community have asked their members to stay away from disposing and skinning of the dead animals, which has been their traditional occupation.

Moreover, in the Surendranagar district, a civic body has to take charge and bury 80 dead animals, just because the Dalit community has refused to do this, as they feel that there is a threat from local cow vigilante groups.
Udit Agarwal, the District Collector has said that, the Dalit community has refused to collect the dead animals and to dispose the carcasses, and is on a strike since one week, so they have asked the municipal corporation staff to do the work.
He has also said that, he will be inviting the Dalit leaders to further discuss the issue and try to resolve the problem. As they have asked them, to provide the community with identity cards to those engaged in skinning. He also mentioned that, they will be consulting the government for their demand.
