More than 800 calls regarding the currency note disputes
The Delhi Police Control Room (PCR) unit on Wednesday has received altogether more than 800 calls regarding the currency note disputes. Sources have revealed that most of the calls were from hospitals, medical stores, railway stations and some from bus stands too.
Sources said that 832 calls were received between Tuesday night and Wednesday evening. The calls were regarding some disputes over Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 notes, said sources. However, no complaints have been lodged in any of these cases.
A call was from the Lakshmi Nagar branch of AXIS bank, where a scuffle has broken down between two people over jumping the queue.
However, in Ashok Vihar, a man has allegedly misbehaved with a chemist over this currency note dispute.
In Okhla, a call came from a dispensary alleging that the staff has not been accepting money. At a petrol pump in Connaught Place, people asked for fuel worth Rs 200 or Rs 300 after they gave Rs 500 notes, leading to arguments.
What is police doing?
Special Commissioner of Police (PCR) Sanjay Beniwal has said that swift action was taken in order to address all complaints in this currency note dispute cases. “Our PCR staff is very attentive and are keeping an eye on it,” said Beniwal.
Meanwhile, some adequate arrangements have been made at petrol pumps and Kendriya Bhandar stores where there currency notes with such denominations were allowed.
Joint Commissioner of Police (spokesperson) Dependra Pathak said, “The moment this news broke, we have analysed the places where crowds could further assemble — petrol pumps, ATMs, Kendriya Bhandars — and deployed policemen.”
“We will also have a deployment at banks as well, once they reopen,” said Pathak.
Traffic policemen were also instructed to issue court fines to the offenders of currency notes dispute when it amounted to Rs 500 or above. “We issue two types of challans — spot challans and some of the court challans. About 85 per cent of them are a mount to Rs 100 only. We have issued court challans to offenders whose fine amount was Rs 500 or above,” Joint Commissioner of Police (traffic) Garima Bhatnagar said.
