After Assam, BJP set its goal on Manipur
The BJP-led government, which is the currently in power and the party is now making an increased focus on Manipur.
The BJP is striving to make it a big affair, as it did in Assam, will be another uphill task, as the ruling Congress had further achieved an unprecedented 42 seats in the 60-member House in the last elections.
The Centre is also setting up a sports university in the State and the University of Culture has also been recently opened in capital city Imphal.
Apart from this, there are several development projects, including a rail line which will connect Imphal, statues of the freedom fighters have been erected in Hojai, a Manipuri-dominated area in Assam.
BJP heads for Manipur
Khetrimayum Bhabananda, a politician surprisingly with a clean political record, was made the State BJP president.
It was further seen as a move aimed to tackle the Congress party which, has been in power for three consecutive terms.
All former Chief Ministers, Ministers, including party presidents and various other major players of the BJP have been sidelined.
“The influence of the BJP party is such that it will wrest power in the next upcoming polls,” Mr. Bhabananda had said.
The former BJP president and the election strategist Thounaojam Chaoba said, “We opened our accounts by further winning both the seats in the recent by-polls. Now, many of the Congressmen are scrambling to join the BJP”.
