The day is otherwise marked as the World Food Day is observed on the 16th of October is a day set aside to draw the attention of the world to the issues of hunger, food and sustainable food production. Celebrated every year by the Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) of the United Nations since 1979, this day seeks to remind people on the importance of combating hunger together worldwide.

Theme of World Food Day 2024
Each year, World Food Day focuses on a particular theme that reflects the concerns of the world food situation. The 2024 theme involves the much-needed change in food systems that will determine climate and sustainability issues of the society. This theme focuses on the sustainability of food systems in the face of climate change and its effects in agriculture here the world is called upon to innovation, increase inclusion and to promote the support of the food system so as to support people as well as food production.
History and Significance
This event is celebrated every year and coincides with the event that took place on the 16th of October 1945, the establishment of FAO. It has since then been used in handling out hunger, malnutrition and food insecurity issues. The FAO clarifies that today millions of people are still hungry around the world and this day unites people to become engaged for eradicating hunger around the world.
Objectives
The main objectives of World Food Day are to:
1. Create a sense of/alertness/ of hunger and malnutrition}.
2. Promote behaviours for the effective implementation of sustainable conditions with regard to food production.
3. Stress need to promote international collaboration as one of the key trends to focus on in connection with issues related to food.
4. Fight for policies that will grant people equal opportunity to be able to feed on healthy foods.
Celebration and Events
On World Food Day food drives, conferences, and other activities are held all over the world according to various sources in more than 150 countries. These include events such us fairs that promote sustainable food production, healthy eating, consumption and the reduction of food wastage through collaboration between governments, NGOs, and the communities.
World Food Day 2024 acts as a reminder and appeal for everyone to work towards making food security a possibility.
