The History of World Cotton Day

World Cotton Day was launched by the World Trade Organization (WTO) on 7 October 2019 through a request by four African cotton-producing countries, namely Benin, Burkina Faso, Chad, and Mali, which are collectively called the “Cotton-4.” These countries greatly rely on cotton as one of the important agricultural products, but they see more significance in this commodity’s economic value. This event is supported by organizations like the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) and the International Cotton Advisory Committee (ICAC). Its aim is to bring forth some attention to fair trade, development opportunities, and sustainable practices that can be supported in the cotton sector.

Significance of Cotton

Cotton is an important product of the textile industry, which has vital employment and economic growth roles for both the developed and developing countries.
