In Conversation with Sanjeev Chopra, the Founder of Lit Fest ‘Valley of Words’

People who love literature can go miles to be a part of the most exciting Literature Festivals happening anywhere in the world.  Every year a lot of Literature Festivals take place, but not every festival gets its due credit. Today, we are going to tell you about an unexplored literature festival, which will make you interested instantly.  But this year even if you wish to be part of it, you will not be able to do so, thanks to the unexpected situation of COVID 19.

Valley of Words, a literature festival curated by Dr. Sanjeev Chopra is organized every year in the beautiful valleys of Dehradun.  This year the festival will be organized in November. Notably, it will be the fourth edition of the Vow festival. In the last edition, there were more than 8000 registrations. Sadly, this year people have to take part virtually. Recently, we got in touch with the founder of Vow and he said, “We are not socially distanced, we are actually physically distanced. I think it is also a great opportunity to explore.”

Here is a brief about Sanjeev Chopra

Sanjeev Chopra, IAS (West Bengal: 1985) Director Sanjeev Chopra holds a Ph.D. in Management, besides degrees in Law, History and Literature. He was also a Guest Scholar at The Brookings Institution, Washington DC and attended the Twenty-First Century Trust Fellows Program at Merton College, Oxford. He has written extensively on policy issues in governance and development interventions in rural development, agriculture, marketing reforms, co-operatives, and farmer organizations. He has several books to his credit, including ‘At the Crossroads: Development Discourses in India’, ‘Agri-Matters’, ‘Ten Thousand Crores’, besides three edited volumes on Policy Colloquia on Co-operatives in the SAARC Region, and articles in leading papers like E.P.W, Mainstream, Frontier, Encounter, Millennium Post, Garhwal Post, et al.

He organizes a Literature and Arts Festival, ‘Valley of Words’ at Dehradun in November every year. He has served as the District Magistrate of Murshidabad, CEO of Himul and Siliguri Jalpaiguri Development Authority (SJDA), ADM of Cooch Behar and SDO at Ghatal, West Midnapore district and Kalimpong in Darjeeling, where he was also posted as Assistant Magistrate for training. From 2002-2007, he served the Government of Uttarakhand as the Secretary to the Industrial Development and Information Technology Department. From 2007-2010, he was the Principal Secretary to the Government of West Bengal in Agriculture, Food Processing, and Horticulture Departments. Before joining the Academy, on January 1, 2019, he was the Additional Chief Secretary to the Government of West Bengal in the Departments of Industry, Commerce & Enterprises, as well as the Director-General of the Administrative Training Institute, Kolkata.
