The History of the Dish –

Established in 1932, Vishnu, a native of Chauparan, started this store selling “Kheer Mohan.” Along with other freedom fighters, Mahatma Gandhi visited the store during the Quit India Movement and indulged in the treat. Because of its high price, “Kheer Mohan” was first a luxury mostly enjoyed by the British. It ultimately made its way into foreign markets after growing in favor among the natives over time.

The distinctive flavor of Chauparan’s “Kheer Mohan” comes from the milk chenna used in its preparation. There are two ways to make this sweet: one with sugar syrup and the other with jaggery syrup. It is similar to gulab jamun and rasgulla. “Kheer Mohan” costs between Rs 250 and Rs 400 a kilogram, or about 30 pieces per kilogram. The area has seen an increase of “Kheer Mohan” stores after the COVID-19 outbreak, which is indicative of the dish’s ongoing appeal.
