In the domain of priceless resources, focus rules, as evidenced by Nancy D’Souza, the hardworking English teacher at the observation home. Her rule was clear: If you were not very attentive, you were likely to receive the impact of a flying chalk. In over two years under her tutelage, I managed to amass this number of those chalks. I used to daydream constantly: about the smell wafting from the kitchen, the illicit excitement of film magazines always left under desks, and most of all, the freedom symbolized by the bell above the door.

The whole affair was so quick that I could not even let out a scream or try to get a hold of my pepper spray. Though the street was poorly illuminated, there were people on the street during the occurrence, but none dared to intercede or report the occurrence. In this city overcrowded with people, lacking union, everyone stands alone.
