What Is Teachers’ Day?

History of Teachers’ Day: Promoting Teacher’s Day in India started in 1962 after a proposal by Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan. Instead of celebrating his birthday separately each year, Radhakrishnan proposed to commemorate his birthday as Teachers’ Day, as a mark of honour for all teachers. This was informed by his notion that teachers should receive an honor collectively in recognition to their endeavors towards the discipline of teaching. For a vision he brought about on proposal that set a benchmark for celebrating the teachers beginning with September 5th as Teacher’s Day.
