DO’S AND DON’TS OF SKIN CARE FOR EVERY AGE

A COMPLETE GUIDE FOR YOUR SKIN CARE

You may have read plenty of articles on skin care advice over the course of your life but this won’t be one of them. Everyone has their own personal course to make their skin radiant naturally and their thing might not necessarily be the right for everyone.

However, there are still some concepts that benefit everyone no matter what your skin type or age is.

DOS:

CLEANSE EVERY DAY

This is the first thing you should do and it goes without saying. Cleansing is the basic thing you can do for your skincare, because putting on even the most expensive, luxurious cream won’t do anything if dirt and grime are blocking the cream from actually touching you. Also, make sure to not wash your face with hot water.

EXFOLIATE OFTEN

It is a key component of healthy and vibrant skin. However, too much exfoliation is not a good thing. Just strike the right balance between thoroughly deep cleansing your skin and overdoing it, exfoliating enough to reveal new, soft skin, but avoid doing it too frequently as your skin may become sensitive and raw. It is recommended that using an exfoliating scrub 2-3 times a week is good for the skin.

STAY EDUCATED & DO YOUR RESEARCH

No matter what your skin type or concerns are, staying educated on your skin is very important. You have to know what kind of products benefits or damages your skin and researching the latest skincare technology and products can never be a bad thing. Read beauty blogs just to understand and for your knowledge and apart from natural remedies, don’t try every product on your skin.

FOLLOW DIRECTIONS

Don’t do it on your own whenever you try out a new product. First, try to fully evaluate a product and read all the details given on the packaging before deciding whether it will work or doesn’t work as there is a reason cosmetic companies print all those directions on the box. Also, if a serum says to use twice a day, then you should do exactly as it says because that way, you may get the best results.

WEAR A HAT

Whenever you go outside, grab a hat to cover up your scalp and shade your face from the direct sun exposure. It will help limit the aging effects of the sun and will also prevent your skin from dryness and cracks.

EAT & DRINK HEALTHY

Eat nutritious food that is rich in vitamins and minerals such as fruits, and green veggies to improve the quality of your skin.  Also, rejuvenate your skin with antioxidants to keep it healthy and nourished.

SLEEP WELL

Lack of sleep can also lead to skin problems and aging effects and proper sleep can help your skin look healthy.

EXERCISES

Physical exercises help to increase the blood flow and promote healthy circulation throughout the body to give your skin the nourishment to look and feel young.

VISIT AN ESTHETICIAN/EXPERT

Find a good aesthetician or an expert for your skin treatment who will analyse your skin, perform a deep cleansing, and be able to recommend professional products tailored to your concerns. Experts’ suggestion is very important as you may be pleasantly surprised by what’s new out there or what you can learn about your skin.

DON’TS:

DON’T EXPOSE YOUR SKIN

Don’t reveal your skin too much every time when you’re out in the sun and be sure to use an SPF cream (30 SPF or higher) before you have to leave the house.  Understand this, needless exposure to the sun will speed up the aging process and also will increase the chances of severe skin damage and no one really wants that.

DON’T GIVE UNCERTAIN SKIN CARE ADVICE

A lot of beauty myths are floating around out there and on the internet. For instance, if you have acne, wearing makeup will be more dangerous as it will clog your pores even more, right? Well, wrong! as it is just a piece of “fake news”, so unless you’re an aesthetician, don’t play one on the Internet, TV, or anywhere else.

DON’T SHARE SKIN CARE PRODUCTS

Every skin is different but they are not necessarily clean so don’t let anyone share your skin care products.

DON’T DEHYDRATE YOUR FACE AND BODY

The best tip you can get is to avoid caffeine/alcohol consumption and drink more water else it can cause serious dehydration. Dry and damaged skin will look dull and unhealthy and is also susceptible to aging.

DON’T SLEEP WITH MAKEUP ON

Don’t forget to clean your face before going to bed as night’s sleep is a time that allows repair and reconstruction of skin cells. Make sure not to wear any makeup while you go to bed else it will block the pores with makeup, dirt, and pollution that gathered on your face throughout the day which will prevent your skin from generating new cells.

DON’T SMOKE

Multiple studies say that tobacco smoking can dry out your skin and even discolour. So, it’s best to avoid smoking altogether. Do it as a favour to your skin.

DON’T STRESS OUT

Stress increases hormones and ultimately makes your skin oilier which can cause skin problems like acne, rashes, and other irritations.

DON’T OVER-DO YOUR MAKEUP

Excessive makeup not only clogs the pores leading to breakouts but also the chemicals can dry out your skin. Natural or organic makeup products may have fewer chemicals but still can affect your skin at some level so it’s better to take an expert opinion based on the analysis of your skin.

DON’T FORGET

Never forget to moisturize your skin even if you have oily skin. Proper nourishment is always essential.
