Navratri Day 5: Why Devi Parvati Became Goddess Skandamata?
Maa Skandmata is the fifth avatar of Maa Durga and is worshipped on the fifth day of Navratri. Skanda is another name for Kartikeya. When Goddess Parvati became the mother of Lord Skanda, as is clear from the name Mata Parvati was known as Goddess Skandamata. It is believed that the planet Buddha is governed by Goddess Skandamata.
The Goddess Skandamata mounts the ferocious lion. She carries baby Murugan in her lap, and Murugan is also known as Kartikeya and is the brother of Lord Ganesh. The Goddess Skandamata is depicted with four hands. She carries a lotus flower in her upper two hands. She holds baby Murugan in her right hand and keeps the other right hand in Abhay Mudra. She sits on a lotus flower, and Skandamata is also known as Goddess Padmasana.

The complexion of Goddess Skandamata is Shubhra, which describes her white complexion. Maa Skandamata, a form of Goddess Parvati, is worshipped by her devotees as a mother of a supremely gifted child. They get the benefit of worshipping Lord Kartikeya because he is sitting in his mother’s lap. This quality is possessed only by the Skandamata form of Goddess Parvati. Her worship leads to peace, prosperity and salvation.

Mantra meaning
The Goddess Durga is an omnipresent one. She is the personification of the Universal Mother. She is the embodiment of power, peace and intelligence in all beings. Worship her with all devotion so that she can bless us with happiness and prosperity.
Colour of the day
The colour of the 5th day of Navratri is green, representing nature, growth and energy.
Shubha Muhurta
The Brahma Muhurta will be from 4:37 am to 5:25 am.
Amrit Kalam will appear from 6:18 pm to 7:51 pm.
Vijaya Muhurta will occur between 2:10 pm and 2:58 pm.
Bhog
Skandamata is offered bananas in a bhog. Devotees also prepare various treats with bananas to honour the Goddess.
Puja Vidhi
On the fifth day, devotees bathe and wear yellow clothes to worship the Goddess. The yellow colour represents optimism, good health, positivity, and happiness. After placing the idol of the Goddess on a chowki, devotees offer her yellow flowers, Ganga Jal, Kumkum and ghee.
It is believed that those who worship Maa Skandamata with complete devotion, she blesses them with happiness, prosperity and power.
