Easy Recipe to Make Deliciously Colorful Tiranga Halwa at Home

India is celebrating its 74th Republic Day this year. 26th January is not just a public holiday, but it is a reminder of the century-long struggle. On this day, the world’s largest democracy gave itself a constitution. The Republic Day 2023 preparations are at their peak, and the country is all geared up for gala time.

Why do we celebrate Republic Day and how is it celebrated?

Independence Day is celebrated to enjoy the freedom of India from British Rule. On the other hand, Republic Day is celebrated to commemorate the coming of its constitution into force. Every year a lot of events are organised to celebrate the importance of the day. A huge military parade takes place at Rajpath, New Delhi. Bravery Awards are also distributed on this day.

Celebrations are always incomplete without food

Food is an integral part of our celebrations. And in India, all the celebrations are incomplete without delicious cuisines. So, if you are planning a get-together with family and friends this Republic Day, here is an amazing patriotic dish.

Trianga Peda (Sweet Dish)

Ingredients

Ghee: 250 – 300 gms

Almonds: 150 gms

Sugar: 750 gms

Milk: 1 cup

Green cardamom: 1-, powdered

Cashew nuts: 250 gms

Saffron Powder: ¼ tsp

Green colour: ¼ tsp

Orange or Red colour: ¼ tsp

Directions

Soak Almonds and cashew nuts in separate vessels for 30 minutes

  • Then peel the skin from the almonds. Grind cashew nuts and almonds smoothly, and prepare a paste
  • Add sugar and milk to the paste and grind it thickly. Keep equal portions in three bowls
  • Mix the orange food colour into one portion. Add 1/3 rd of the ghee and green cardamom powder.
  • Keep the mixture on the stove and stir it well till the mixture leaves the sides of the pan
  • Pour that mixture on a ghee coated and spread evenly without adding any colour powder
  • Pour this over orange colour burfi and spread it evenly
  • Add green colour, remaining ghee, and green cardamom powder to the third bowl
  • Prepare this green Burfi and pour it on top of the white Burfi. Spread it evenly. Once cooled, cut into squares and serve.

Palak – Vitamin C and A, fibre, flavournoids, and folic acid are found in high amounts in palak. Spinach or palak is known to cut down the risk of cancer by as much as 34 percent.

Cucumber – Since ages, cucumber is known to benefit dehydration and in regulating body temperature. It eliminates toxic substances from the body. Cucumber has high water content.

Carrot – Carrots are loaded with carotenoids and vitamin A. This crunchy orange power food is great for calorie-conscious people.

Palak Halwa

  • 1 cup milk
  • 1 cup palak puree
  • 2 tsp ghee
  • Cardamom powder
  • 6 tbsp sugarite (sugar-free)
  • Dry fruits for garnishing

Cucumber Halwa

  • 1 cup of milk
  • 1 tbsp khoya
  • 1 cup cucumber
  • 2 tsp ghee
  •  Cardamom powder
  •  6 tbsp sugarite (sugar-free)
  • Dry fruits for garnishing

Carrot Halwa

  • 1 cup grated carrot (English carrot)
  • 1 cup of milk
  •  2 tbsp ghee
  • Cardamom powder
  • 6 tbsp sugartie (sugar-free)
  • Dry fruits for garnishing

Method of Preparation:

The Green Layer (Palak Halwa):

  • First of all wash palak or spinach with clean water and blanch well. Run through cold water and make an even puree of palak.
  • Get a saucepan and add the puree and sauté for 5-6 minutes. Add sugarite and milk and stir well till the puree starts leaving the pan.
  • Take a plate and arrange the final mixture at the bottom side of it.

The White layer (cucumber halwa):

  • Take a cucumber and wash it well. Peel off the skin and grate it and squeeze the cucumber and sauté it well for 5 minutes.
  • Mix sugarite and milk and stir well. When the milk dries up add khoya and again mix well till the mixture leaves the pan.
  • Arrange the final product as the second layer of our tiranga halwa.

The Orange Layer (Carrot Halwa):

  • Take a few carrots and wash them well. Peel the skin and grate them. Take a tablespoon of ghee in a saucepan and heat. Now add the grated carrot and sauté for 4-5 minutes.
  • Add sugarite and milk and stir well, keep stirring till the mixture leaves the saucepan. Arrange it as the first layer.
  • Finally your tiranga or tricolour halwa is ready and you can garnish it with roasted dry fruits.

Serve it to your guests and get ready to share the recipe.
