9 Winter Pet Care Tips for Your Furry Friends
Winters can also be unbearable for animals, just like human beings. Follow these Winter Pet Care Tips and keep your pet healthy
The bone-chilling breeze is finally here and the blankets have got us covered. But what about your pet? Winter weather could be a vibe for you but it may lead to lots of health problems.
Like us, our little pets feel cold too and despite their furry coats, the chilling winters can make them severely ill. Although God has made animals strong enough to face any situation, bad health can make their immunity weak.
How to take care of your pets?
Now every animal differs from the other which is why their requirements are also different from each other.
Be it a dog, cat, rabbit, monkey or mouse, everyone needs extra care in winter. So, if you also have a pet, here are some winter pet care tips you can follow to take care of your pet.
Take them inside
If it is cold for you then it is cold for them. All dogs are at risk for hypothermia. If the weather warnings are dire, keep them safe and bring them in.
Tackle itchy dry skin
Winter air is colder and drier. Therefore their skin cannot hold onto as much moisture as it can with air. A humidifier in the house can keep moisture in the air. This supplements the moisture in your skin and your fur pal’s skin.
Short walks
Long exposure to cold could lead to frostbite. Take frequent short walks instead of a single long walk.
Hydration
Don’t let her eat snow (If you are living in a snow-blessed area). Salt and deicers are toxic. You do not know if the roads have been treated. Plus fresh water. Always keep her water bowl filled so she can keep hydrated.
Grooming
A well-kept coat will keep her insulated. Always dry them thoroughly after baths and don’t let them outside until she is completely dry!
Car dangers
Just like in summer, never leave your dog in your car. Cold temperatures are dangerous. A running car also runs the risk of carbon monoxide poisoning!
Keep them warm
Every pet in winter is looking for a warm place to sleep and rests therefore try to make warm shelters in front of your house. Make them wear warm clothes to keep their body warm.
Keep them hydrated but away from water
Take care of the water consumption of your pet. Winters can lower their energy level, so make sure that they do not get dehydrated. Do not let your pet play in the water or stay away from home for a long time.
Take your pet to the vet
Take your pet for regular check–ups. If you witness any changes in their behaviour, without wasting time go and consult the doctor.
“I have a rabbit that stays active all the time and when the winters approach, he does not understand that playing in water can be hazardous for him. I make him wear some clothes too so that he doesn’t fall ill. I also keep a check on his diet as it’s winter now and he doesn’t go out to play so if he will eat more that would lead to an increase in the number of calories”, says Seema Srivastava.
Always remember that winters can also be unbearable for animals, just like human beings. Follow the above-said tips and keep your pet healthy! Got any more winter pet care tips? Let us also know.
