COVID-19 has completely changed our lifestyle. It’s more than 40 days of lockdown, and we have slowly adjusted to the new normal – ‘Being at home’. From managing household chores, to handling work calls, and looking after the kids, people are having a tough time. Since one cannot take kids out, it becomes difficult to keep them engaged all the time.
Setting a routine for them is extremely important, so that they can learn something productive. Lockdown has given us the opportunity to spend quality time with our loved ones. Also, it is the best time to learn new things, explore some unexplored topics, and inculcate some good habits, especially in kids. Reading books is one of them. Habit of reading books not only increases their knowledge, but also strengthens their brain, and builds their vocabulary.
These days mobile phone and social media have taken over, and children hardly read books. It could be tiring to make them sit for a reading session. In that case, you can use social media for a good cause. Recently, former first lady of the United States, Michelle Obama did a series called Mondays with Michelle Obama. It is available on the platforms, YouTube, Facebook and Instagram, you can check it out.

Every Monday she holds a reading session and reads out some interesting stories. The series began on April 20 and ended on May 11. But you can catch all her episodes on her social media accounts. Michelle Obama in collaboration with Penguin Random House and PBS kids came up with this series to make reading session engaging for kids.
Keeping in mind that kids can’t focus for a longer time, the episodes are kept short and crisp. Her way of storytelling is gripping. The episodes also have suitable graphics. It makes the session even more engaging. You can tune into her social media account and enjoy with your kid.
