The monsoon season is loved by all, however, it also brings with it a bunch of waterborne diseases. It is very important to protect yourself and your family from these waterborne diseases during the monsoon season. A few tips and tricks to make sure that you and your family stay safe are-

- Try having only boiled or purified drinking water during the monsoon season- Water can easily get contaminated because of harmful bacteria, viruses, and parasites. In such cases, it’s better if you boil water, and let it cool for a few minutes before consuming it.
- Avoid street food and uncooked food- Street food is not the safest option during monsoon. Try to have freshly cooked meals and warm meals at home. Raw or undercooked food can also increase the risk of foodborne illnesses during monsoon season.
- Keep surroundings clean- Poor drainage and garbage disposal system during monsoon season is a total nightmare. So prevent water stagnation by improving this and keeping your surrounding clean. Make sure that water does not collect anywhere as that can become a breeding ground for mosquitoes and spread waterborne diseases.
- A great investment during the monsoon season is using mosquito nets and repellents while sleeping or even stepping out. Whenever you go outside, make sure that you have covered yourself properly and applied mosquito repellant.
- During the monsoon season, it’s important that we avoid areas where there is heavy rain or floods. We should definitely avoid walking in floodwaters as the floodwaters can easily be contaminated and carry various diseases. If you do step in floodwater, make sure that once you are back you have a good bath and clean yourself.
- Make sure that you and your family members are up to date with all your vaccinations, such as typhoid, hepatitis, and flu.
