Indian Akshay Urja Day is held every year on 20th of August and it plays an important role to spread awareness about the renewable energy. This day aims at promoting the use of renewable energy sources including solar, wind and biomass energy more than the other limited sources like the coal, oil and natural gas energy sources. The day is a good reminder on the proper use of energy resources in India and also calls for the use of green energy solutions.

The Significance of Akshay Urja Day: The Save Akshay Urja Day is very important to pass the message to the people about the importance of renewable energy to the environment as well as the economy. Zero Carbon Day, therefore, is a day of awareness that seeks to discourage the consumption of fossil fuel, minimise emissions of green house gases and in turn slow the effects of climate change. The Akshay Urja Day is also celebrated to mark the birth anniversary of the former Prime Minister of India – Rajiv Gandhi, and is thus also called the Rajiv Gandhi Akshay Urja Diwas.
History and Evolution of Akshay Urja Day: The Akshay Urja Day was initiated in the year 2004 by the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE), with the support of the then Prime Minister – Dr. Manmohan Singh. The first celebration entailed about 12000 school children back in New Delhi joining hand to make a human chain to champion the usage of renewable power source. Since then Akshay Urja Day has become a campaign across the country to demonstrate government-led schemes and technological developments on renewable resources of energy.

Akshay Urja Day 2024: To involve the youths of India, schools, colleges, and universities will conduct several programs and events in the upcoming Akshay Urja Day in the year 2024. The message of the sustainable energy will be spread through organizing quiz contests, debates, cultural programmes and rallies supported by posters and banners.
