When is Hindi Diwas Celebrated in India?
The Hindi Diwas or National Hindi Day is observed every year on September 14. This day is celebrated to pay tribute to the Hindi language as it serves as a part of the country’s cultural and national identity system. Hindi Diwas is celebrated and orgonized on the same day as 14th September is observed as the date when the Constituent Assembly had passed the resolution to adopt Hindi as the official language of India. Activities like essay competition, debate, and poetry recitation are also organized in schools, colleges and offices in order to spread and popularize the use of Hindi language. Historical Significance of Hindi Diwas: Hindi Diwas is observed annually on September 14th and dates back to the period when the Constituent Assembly of India endorsed Hindi as the official language of the nation. The use of Hindi as the language of the union was implemented in the Indian Constitution on January 26, 1950, which was a major turning point in the language policy of the country. Most historians agree that the decision was spear-headed by the first Prime Mini Hemad Pandey, Jawaharlal Nehru being one of them, in order to create a unity in a particularly diverse country, Hindi was to be used.

More About the Hindi Language: Hindi literally translated from Persian language where Hind means The Land of Indus River has a glorious past and has had a very prosperous history. It is written in the Devanagari script which is as old as 11th century. As estimated in the 2011 Census, around 43 percent of the population. Hindi is acknowledged as the sixth most spoken language of the world and 6% of Indians reports Hindi as their first language.
