Rishabh Pant Quotes Mentor MS Dhoni After SRH Victory
Rishabh Pant, captain of the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG), led his team to a convincing five-wicket victory over SunRisers Hyderabad (SRH) in an Indian Premier League (IPL) match on March 27, 2025. He credited his sharp focus and strategic mindset during his wins to the learning he derived from his mentor, former Indian captain MS Dhoni, after winning against SRH. During the post-match presentation, Pant spoke at length about “the need to concentrate on the things that are under one’s control,” which he analyzed according to the tenets of Dhoni.
The win is backed by the disbelief of many observers regarding where this team will end up after they initially lost against Delhi before missing the best pace attack of India due to injuries. Against this background, however, LSG’s bowlers did well as Shardul Thakur’s attack sent SRH to a rather modest 190 runs within 20 overs on a batting-friendly pitch at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium. In turn, LSG’s batting unit just had to band and be bruised, as Nicholas Pooran scored a quickfire 76 runs and his partner Mitchell Marsh made 52 runs, enabling the side to chase down the total within just 16.1 overs.
That is why Pant talking so much about Dhoni’s mentorship is also proof of how Dhoni at the time played motivationally as a captain for current players. He was best in keeping a very cool and calculated demeanor, and he taught his mentees how to deal with situations under pressure. This was reflected quite clearly in LSG as they were able to execute their game plan despite the doubts and all the tough situations.
Another strategy that paid off for LSG was that of sending Nicholas Pooran higher up the order. Flexibility would allow players such as Pooran to be able to be truly themselves on the pitch when they are free-flowing and in form rather than just keeping a lid on everything. Backed up by Pooran’s able run-galloping abilities, this would then work well in favor with his batting style, which is rather aggressive, and thus helped in the chase as well.
Not just for the improvement of LSG in the IPL but also in centering around an approach that is in touch with things under one’s control and flexibly adaptable, this match clearly confirmed that premise. One aspect of the Pant-style idiosyncrasy is Dhoni approaching time-strapped situations in accordance with process-oriented strategies rather than external expectations and all the factors not in control of outside forces. Such a technique is the requirement at the heart of this ever-evolving yet often unpredictable world of T20 cricket.

It is motivating not only for matches but something that sums up the inheritance from Dhoni to the next generation like Pant, which speaks for how the experience and leader may touch even the broader skies of Indian cricket. Dhoni fills up the future with hopes for the talents to come as they will increasingly learn from his legacy about battle readiness, strategy formation, and continuous improvement with resilience.
At the same time, whereas experience has a very definite say within large number IPL 2025 matches for LSG, surviving these will create chances with youth and opportunity.
