Ranya Rao Reveals Physical Abuse, DRI Uncovers Established Syndicate
Kannada actress Ranya Rao became under arrest at Bengaluru International Airport this past March showing a complicated situation that combines physical assault claims alongside evidence of extensive gold trafficking activities. Rao received arrest on March 3 2025 when she tried to smuggle 14.2 kg of gold worth ₹12.86 crore through the body as she connected from Dubai to an Indian flight. 
The police obtained an admission from Rao that she possessed 17 gold bars after which she revealed about multiple international journeys extending to Europe and the United States and the Middle East regions. The uncovered information prompted increased worry about whether she links to other international smuggling operations so far.
The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) requires Rao to undergo interrogation while under detention to investigate her supposed ties with a recognized gold smuggling ring. The investigative agency plans to reveal evidence found in her mobile devices and laptops to determine operation scope and discover other members taking part in illegal activities. 
Current events have produced concerns about how Rao has been treated during her custodial period. Social media posts display footage of the actress showing signs of eye swelling and visible injuries that fueled accusations of abuse at her custodial facility. Rao revealed she lives with mental distress after the incident because she cannot rest at night and her mind continually returns to her participation in the situation. 
The Karnataka State Commission for Women declared that no inquiry into the allegations can begin without getting a complaint directly from Rao. Chairperson Nagalakshmi Chaudhary declared that the commission needs an official complaint before taking action even though they condemn any physical attacks firmly.
Due to Rao being prominent in Kannada films and being related to an IPS officer of DGP rank in Karnataka the case has received substantial notice.
